Types of Allergy Testing
"in vitro" (serum/plasma)
- Rast (radioallergosorbant test): uses radioactive tag - ELISA (enzyme linked immunosorbant assay): uses an enzyme tag
"in vivo" (intradermal skin testing)
- We test anywhere from 50-80 allergens that are injected intradermally (into the skin) - The reactions are then measured against a positive and negative control
Preparation for the procedure (IDST)
Certain medications may interfere with the results and should be withdrawn prior to the test date, not the consultation date
